Funding

At The Brain Place, government funding is available to access psychological services. This can be done via the Better Access to Mental Health Treatment Plan and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Further information regarding these funding structures can be located on the relevant websites.

Better Access To Mental Health Care Plan (Medicare)

The Medicare rebate is available to people with a diagnosed mental disorder. This includes many conditions, such as depression, anxiety , sleep difficulties, attention deficit disorder, bereavement   and many other conditions . The first step is to talk to your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician to determine whether treatment under Better Access is suitable for your needs. They will be able to organise a Mental Health Treatment Plan for you requesting services under the Better Access Initiative.

Once you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you will be able to access Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual psychology appointments in a calendar year. After the first 6 sessions, you will need to see your doctor again for a mental health plan review. They will then make a decision whether you will benefit from additional sessions.

NDIS

Assessments and Treatment are available through The National Disability Insurance Scheme. Plans generally run for 12 months, unless there is a significant change that requires a review of supports earlier. We are only able to accept payment from funds that are self-managed or plan managed. We do not see clients who are managed by the NDIA. At The Brain Place, psychological services can be funded from the Capacity Building budget - Daily Activity section. Your support coordinator will be able to assist you in managing your funding allocation.

Psychological Services

A referral is not required to access Psychological services. Referrals can be self-made. However you may be eligible for Medicare funding; you may choose to discuss this with your GP or contact us for further clarification.

Neuropsychology Assessments

At present, there is no Medicare funding for Neuropsychological Assessments. If you have private health care, please check with your provider to determine your Psychology cover. Funding for assessments may be available through NDIS, TAC, Workcover and DVA.

Cancellation Policy

The Brain Place will send a reminder SMS to clients 48 hours prior to the appointment. Please respond either Yes or No. We require 24 hours notice of attendance, otherwise a 50% Cancellation Fee will apply. We will charge a 100% Cancellation Fee  where the appointment in not attended without advising the clinic.
