Children, Adolescents, and Families

Growing up in this world presents so many challenges to young children. As a parent, you are best placed to determine whether your child may benefit from additional psychological support.

At The Brain Place, we use our extensive experience to support your child to achieve psychological, social, and emotional wellbeing. We can help your child navigate through a variety of challenging situations by helping them learn new skills to manage their big emotions and to strengthen their resilience.

We can provide psychological intervention and therapy for a range of challenges including:

  • Changes in behaviour such as aggression, anger, or strong emotional reactions
  • Behaviour that is concerning, challenging, or disruptive (particularly in the school environment)
  • Withdrawing from previously enjoyable activities
  • Changes in mood
  • Anxiety and persistent worry
  • Reduced self-esteem
  • Difficulty managing social situations and/or friendship difficulties
  • Bullying and/or school refusal
  • Establishing healthy sleep habits and routines
  • Life skills such as transitioning to school, time management, and exam preparation

Additionally, we have specialist knowledge in the areas of neurodevelopment, Acquired Brain Injury, and the impact of chronic conditions on brain development. We understand how to support behavioural, social, psychological, and emotional challenges following an Acquired Brain Injury.

We are perfectly placed to help your child achieve their goals across both the mainstream and specialist school settings. In collaboration with teachers, carers and others working with your child, we can provide support with developing social skills, behaviour management for children struggling in the classroom and at home, and for children displaying difficulty processing their emotions.  We also understand how to incorporate interventions and strategies that blend with the needs of the family unit.

We have the expertise to identify the barriers to effective learning and development and we work collaboratively with teachers and school communities to ensure that your child is able to maximise their potential to work towards achieving their goals.

We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the First Australians and Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live and work.
